We Get What We Expect

A general principle in life is reflected the idea that, in the words of St. Francis of Assisi, “what you are looking for is what is looking.”

Let’s apply this to marketing and sales. If your brand looks cheap, you’re attracting low value buyers who want a deal, and they’re less surprised when what they paid for doesn’t really deliver on its promise.

They drag the brand down with low expectations - and if they even mention you at all, it’s an eye roll.

If your brand looks premium, you’re attracting people willing to invest in “the best”. But what matters more is the experience you give your customers. That is what creates your brand.

Experience is what causes people to feel something and tell their friends… and really, your brand is nothing more, nothing less than how they all feel about you.

No amount of posturing can change the truth. You either deliver, or not.

For the people “out there” - at a distance, beyond the friendly bubble of people who have had the “experience” you’re selling… you need tight branding to engineer the reputation as a category king or queen. Dress the part. Invest in growth. It’s not just for your customers - it’s for YOU!

Why? Because “we tend to get what we expect." (Thank you Norman Vincent Peale)
